CINCINNATI -- Two fallen heroes were honored today in a special presentation at Cincinnati Christian University called “Beyond the Call” on Thursday.
The chapel service honored firefighters and law enforcement personnel who go beyond the call of duty.
The event has been going on for 11 years, but officials said it’s an especially hard year as they memorialized the sacrifice of Cincinnati police Officer Sonny Kim and Firefighter Daryl Gordon.
Gordon died after falling down an elevator shaft while fighting a fire in March. Kim was killed while responding to a call in June.
Assistant Chief Dave Bailey worked with Kim and was at the scene the day he died.
“I worked with Sonny Kim when I was in District 2 many, many years ago and he was the police officer everybody would want to have respond to an incident,” Bailey said.
Other honorees included those from the fire department and police department who stepped in during emergencies outside of work, volunteered to help children with disabilities and took drugs off the streets.
