TRENTON, Ohio. – Edgewood High School is sending two seated athletes to the state track and field competition this weekend.

It is rare for an Ohio high school to send two seated athletes -- who compete while seated in wheelchairs -- to the state tournament, but the Butler County school is sending Kyle Helsinger and Natalie Wilson.

Helsinger, a senior, is set to compete in the shot put and in both the 100- and 400-meter races. Watson, a sophomore, is set to compete in shot put.

Helsinger expressed a positive attitude about competing in the state tournament.

According to Watson, who is also excited about the competition, her favorite thing about shot put is that her team is very supportive of her.

“The coaches are really awesome,” Watson said. “We’ve all kind of worked together and learned together so it’s been a really great experience to have them and the other track people.”

Their coach, Casey Wells, is extremely proud of his athletes.

“They have improved, gotten better and we’ve had a lot of fun doing it,” Wells said. “We’ve just had a blast, it's been great.”

The OHSAA state track and field competition will take place Saturday.
