CINCINNATI -- Despite gunfire Saturday night, Cincinnati police said the 2016 Taste of Cincinnati was a mostly calm weekend.

The crowds continued to pack Downtown's Fifth Street on Monday, the event's final day. Capt. Mike Neville, of the Cincinnati Police Department, said there were no major incidents Sunday or Monday.

But on Saturday, officers handled several incidents, the most serious involving a juvenile opened fire at the corner of Fountain Square.

"A 15-year-old boy, a juvenile, who discharged a firearm not at anybody, nobody was hit, and he fled on foot and he was apprehended within seconds after it occurred by the officers who were assigned to the Square," Capt. Mike Neville said.

Earlier Saturday, Neville said a tip jar was stolen, but it only had a few dollars in it. One of his officers also was assaulted when she was making an arrest, Neville said, but the officer wasn't injured and didn't seek medical treatment.

"We actually plan a year in advance," he said. "We will take this year's and start getting ready for next year so we know what worked. We know what we can improve on, and we keep building on the year previous."
