CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati police officer Christine Barry smiled at a young girl as she wore her hat around Washington Park Wednesday.

Cincinnati-area photographer Samuel Greenhill captured the moment.

“Today in Cincinnati I saw this officer let this girl borrow her hat and they played together and I find this both adorable and so important,” he posted on Twitter.

Greenhill said he took the photo because the moment seemed “like a beautiful promise of hope.”

Barry said she gave the girl her hat simply because she asked if she could wear it.

"We walked around for awhile together, chatting while she wore my hat. It looked great with her gold handbag," Barry said in an email. "I've always loved talking to and hanging out with the kids. In my opinion, this is the best part of our job as police officers! How lucky are we? That girl made my night!"

Officer Barry works in the Cincinnati Police Department’s Central Business Section.
