WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The former treasurer of a Beckett Road church pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated theft, the Journal-News reported.

Garry Meyer, 61, was first indicted on a third-degree felony in November. Initially, a police report indicated, about $400,000 was stolen from Tri-County Baptist Church.

But that amount eventually rose to more than $800,000, the Journal-News reported, which meant Meyer was indicted in December on a second-degree felony.

According to the December indictment, Meyer stole the money between October 2001 and November 2015.

Tri-County Baptist's senior pastor, Brian McManus, said Meyer called him and confessed in October.

Meyer is scheduled for sentencing Feb. 26, the Journal-News reported. He remained in custody at the Butler County Jail on Monday night.
