HAMILTON, Ohio -- The 14-year-old Hamilton girl accused of fatally shooting her father will remain behind bars due to the seriousness of the charges.
The girl is facing a murder charge after police said she picked up a gun, loaded it, shot her father in the head and then called 911 to report she had shot her dad Feb. 23.
Prosecutors in the case requested a continuance Thursday so the case can go through the grand jury process, WCPO news partner the Journal-News reported. The next pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 29.
The girl will remain in the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center due to the seriousness of the charge, the judge said. The judge encouraged her to continue her "stellar" behavior she has shown behind bars, the Journal-News reported.
