Shop on August 28? You may have been overcharged

Double is great...when it's a double latte, double ice cream cone, or double thick pizza.

But it's not so great when we're talking about your credit or debit card.

Bank Account Charged Twice

Paula Skitt says her bank account was hit for two charges of $57.63, from one purchase on a Friday in  late August.

"They debited my account twice," the Colerain Township woman said.

She had been shopping at The Party Source in Northern Kentucky on that date.

"Well it turns out there was a previous charge back in August, and for some reason they put that charge through a second time, three weeks later," she said.

Skitt says she made only one $57 purchase, not two, and says she's lucky she caught the mistake.

"How many people don't check their statements?" she asked.

Reason for Overcharge

But it turns out The Party Source is not to blame.

"NCR Connected Payments," the credit card processor for hundreds of merchants --including Food Lion and Cub Foods --  now says a glitch caused double charges all over the country on Friday August 28th, 2015.

The manager of The Party Source was out of town, and so there was no one to speak with us on camera. But other employees told us they believe between 25 and 100 customers may have been double charged.

The store is trying to get refunds to all customers impacted.

We don't know what other local stores might have been affected, though no major Cincinnati grocery or big box stores report any problems.

But if you shopped on Friday August 28th, Skitt says, "check your statements."

Good advice, so you don't waste your money.
