CINCINNATI -- After years in the making and months in the planning, craft beer fans will finally be able to get their hands on a much-sought-after brew from MadTree Brewing.

The brewery is teaming up with bean-to-bar craft chocolatier Maverick Chocolate for its release of Rubus Cacao.

The beer will be MadTree’s latest seasonal can debut and takes the winter slot in their production lineup.

Rubus Cacao (pronounced “roo-bus kah-cow”) is described as a sweet chocolate stout with a slightly tart raspberry flavor, melding the two in perfect harmony.

MadTree brewers said the team at Maverick sourced the cacao nibs used in the beer from the Dominican Republic. Those nibs help create a rich chocolate flavor.

The beer was first released on draft only in February 2014 and quickly became a fan favorite. People have clamored for cans and wider distribution ever since.

“It was important to us to work with a local partner to find the cacao nibs and that led us to Paul and Marlene at Maverick Chocolate,” Jeff Hunt, MadTree Brewing co-founder, said via a release.  “Maverick was on-board immediately and very excited to help us find the right chocolate to achieve the flavor profile we wanted for the large-scale release of Rubus Cacao.”

The cans of the beer will be available starting at noon Thursday at the brewery’s taproom at 5164 Kennedy Ave.

During the release, fans can also try Maverick chocolate, and the Catch-a-Fire pizza café in the taproom will have a variety of chocolate-inspired dishes.

The cans and draft sales will go on distribution through Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton and more starting the week of January 11.
