CINCINNATI -- Three people had to be rescued after two separate car crashes within a mile of each other in Westwood overnight.

An eastbound car hit a tree near the intersection of Westwood Northern Boulevard and McHenry Avenue. Police say the engine was ripped from the car and landed 100 yards up the street. Two people were cut from the car and taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Earlier in the night, around 6 p.m. Sunday, crews responded to another serious crash just a mile up the street on Westwood Northern at Montana. The area was shut down for an hour while crews cut one woman from the car. That woman is in critical condition, but is expected to survive.

Westwood Northern is back open in both locations Monday morning.
