Landen Roupp allowed one hit in six innings and Matt Chapman had an RBI double to spark a three-run rally in the seventh and help the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-0 on Thursday.

Roupp (3-1) didnt allow a hit until No. 9 batter P.J. Higgins led off the sixth with a single. That ended up being the Reds only hit of the day.

Roupp hit TJ Friedl with a pitch, but Matt McLain struck out and Elly De La Cruz grounded into a double play to end the threat. Roupp walked two, struck out six and left after 87 pitches.

Ryan Walker pitched the seventh and Keaton Winn struck out two in the eighth. Erik Miller struck out the side in the ninth for his first career save.

The Giants rallied when Luis Arraez reached on an error by De La Cruz at short leading off the seventh against reliever Brock Burke (1-1). Arraez scored from first on Chapman's two-out double off the wall in left-center field. Jung Hoo Lee followed with an RBI single. Connor Phillips entered and walked Heliot Ramos before Casey Schmitt singled in a third unearned run.

Reds rookie Chase Burns allowed two hits and a walk, but still faced the minimum through six scoreless innings. He struck out four and left after throwing 87 pitches.

Phillips was ejected in the eighth for intentionally hitting Willy Adames with a pitch after Roupp plunked Spencer Steer in the second.

In the ninth, benches cleared after Giants reliever Erik Miller struck out Sal Stewart to end the game.

The win snapped a four-game skid and helped the Giants avoid a three-game sweep.

Giants RHP Logan Webb (1-2, 5.25) starts Friday's opener of a three-game series in Washington opposite Nationals RHP Zack Littell (0-1, 4.20).

Reds LHP Brandon Williamson (1-1, 5.28) starts Friday's opener of a three-game series in Minnesota opposite Twins RHP Joe Ryan (2-1, 3.80).

Sal Stewart hit a pair of three-run home runs for a career-high six RBIs, Eugenio Suarez and Elly De La Cruz also homered, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the San Francisco Giants 8-3 on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old Stewart has 12 career homers, the most by a Reds batter through his first 36 games since Aristedes Aquino hit 15 in 2018-19.

Stewart is the second-youngest Reds player with six RBIs in a game behind De La Cruz, who drove in six on Aug. 23, 2003 at the age of 21.

Rookie Rhett Lowder (2-1) allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings for Cincinnati.

Former Red Tyler Mahle (0-3) started for San Francisco and allowed eight runs with five walks and four homers in four innings, raising his ERA from 4.30 to 7.23.

With two runners on in the first, Stewart hit his sixth home run to right-center. Three pitches later, Suarez reached the first row of seats in right to make it 4-0.

It was Suarez's 192nd homer as a Red, moving him past Brandon Phillips into 12th place on the franchise's career list. Suarez had three hits in a game for the first time since rejoining the Reds.

Daniel Susac's two-run double in the second inning cut the Giants' deficit to 4-2.

Following a pair of two-out walks by Mahle, Stewart launched his team-leading seventh homer to make the score 7-2. It was his first career multi-homer game.

De La Cruz made it 8-2 in the fourth with his sixth homer of the season, which sailed an estimated 442 feet to center.

Giants RHP Landen Roupp (2-1, 3.24 ERA) will face Reds RHP Chase Burns (1-1, 3.31) in the series finale on Thursday.

Cincinnati Reds third baseman KeBryan Hayes doesnt take for granted the opportunity to wear No. 42 every April 15 in honor of Jackie Robinson Day.

Its special, Hayes told WCPO 9 Sports. Im glad its a thing where everyone in the whole league wears the same number. It shows unity and a respect for what happened in the past. It means everything to be able to wear '42.'

The late Robinson, a Baseball Hall of Famer, wore No. 42 for the Brooklyn Dodgers when he broke baseballs color barrier on April 15, 1947, at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn.

Hayes, along with Reds outfielders Rece Hinds, Will Benson and Dane Myers, participated in a question-and-answer session Wednesday morning with the Wilberforce University and Kentucky State University baseball teams at the P&G Major League Baseball Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy.

All four players threw out the first pitches prior to the non-conference game between Wilberforce and Kentucky State Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

Wednesday is certainly a significant day for MLB across the country.

Its just awesome, Reds owner Phil Castellini said. Its a time in history. Its something that Id love to get to a time when we dont have to celebrate it. That its so kind of in the rear view. But its still very relevant. And the fact that we can celebrate Jackies role in helping us get to this place in our game is amazing. And the fact that were participating the way we are is special. Look forward to seeing all those guys on the major-league field wearing the 42 tonight, too.

It represents a sense of unity, Hayes said. The history of baseball. Being in Pittsburgh, we wore the 21 (for the late Roberto Clemente). It continues to shed light on the pioneers in baseball. Kind of how we progressed as a league. And just being able to wear '42' its super special.

Spencer Steer and Sal Stewart hit solo home runs and Brady Singer allowed one run in six innings as the Cincinnati Reds beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Singer (1-1), who lasted 2 2/3 innings in his previous start, needed just 75 pitches to get through six innings on Tuesday. He allowed one run and six hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Emilio Pagn pitched the ninth to earn his fifth save.

The two homers were the only hits allowed by Giants starter Robbie Ray (2-2), who had a 12-inning scoreless streak snapped. He issued four walks, struck out six and needed 94 pitches to get through five innings.

Ray had allowed two home runs in 19 1/3 innings before Steer's home run to lead off the third. It was the first run allowed by Ray since April 2.

Stewart's fifth homer of the season came on a 3-2 pitch in the fourth to make the score 2-0. He leads all NL rookies in homers.

Willy Adames hit a solo homer into the second deck of the left-field bleachers to make the score 2-1 in the fifth. It was his third homer of the season and 20th of his career against Cincinnati, the most against any opponent.

The Giants made a bid to tie the score in the ninth, but pinch hitter Daniel Susac's long drive to center was caught at the wall by Dane Myers for the final out.

San Francisco dropped to 1-10 this season when scoring three or fewer runs. Cincinnati improved to 4-0 in games decided by one run.

Reds RHP Rhett Lowder (1-1, 3.31) faces Giants RHP Tyler Mahle (0-2, 4.30) on Wednesday.

The Cincinnati Reds have traded Christian Encarnacion-Strand, the team announced Monday.

Encarnacion-Strand, better known as CES, is headed to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations. Baltimore optioned Encarnacion-Strand to Triple-A Norfolk.

The move comes after he was designated for assignment April 8.

The 25-year-old has been with the Reds for the past three seasons, batting .233 with 21 home runs and 72 RBIs in his 128 games played.

Encarnacion-Strand entered the 2024 season regularly playing first base before struggling early in the season, averaging only .190 and two home runs. He then broke his wrist in May, ending his 2024 season. He returned as the Reds' starting first baseman in 2025, but fell out of the rotation due to a back injury.

Earlier on Monday, the Reds optioned outfielder Noelvi Marte to Triple-A Louisville.

Just days after his infamous wall catch was immortalized in bobblehead form, Noelvi Marte is being optioned down to Triple-A.

The Reds announced they're optioning the right fielder to Louisville after a tough start to the season. In 29 at-bats, Marte has produced just four hits with a .138 batting average.

Marte first debuted for Cincinnati in August 2023, batting .316 with three homers and 15 RBIs in 35 games played. However, the now-24-year-old was suspended for 80 games the following season after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance.

When he returned, Marte struggled at the plate, with the Reds sending him down to Louisville during training camp in 2025. Despite the setback, he worked his way back to the big leagues and became a key figure in the squad that brought Cincinnati back to the playoffs most notably, when he robbed the Pirates of a game-tying homer in one of the final games of the season, bringing the Reds closer to the NL wild card.

While Cincinnati has not announced a corresponding move, multiple reports claim Rece Hinds will be called up from Louisville. Hinds, 25, was drafted by the Reds in the second round of the 2019 draft and made appearances in 24 games in 2024 and 15 games in 2025.

Pete Rose may not be in the National Baseball Hall of Fame yet much to the displeasure of many but he may be headed for the big screen.

Actor Mark Wahlberg announced on a podcast that he's working on a movie about the Cincinnati Reds legend and MLB all-time hit king, who died in September 2024.

Wahlberg talked about the film on an April 9 episode of the "Throwbacks" podcast, hosted by Matt Leinart and Jerry Ferrara.

"We're talking about doing Pete Rose, right now," Wahlberg said on the podcast.

The Boston-born actor has done several sports-related movies, including "Invincible" and "The Fighter."

He said the biopic on Charlie Hustle would follow Rose's life when he's older, as well as his second stint in Cincinnati as a player and manager from 1984-1986. Rose managed the Reds after he retired from playing through the 1989 season.

Wahlberg, who has produced several films he's acted in, such as "Lone Survivor," "Deepwater Horizon" and more, said that a script has been written for the movie. He did not say if he planned on acting in the film or who he envisions playing Rose in the movie.

"We've been actively developing that right now and speaking to filmmakers, so we've got a script," Wahlberg said.

It's also unclear if the movie about the Cincinnati native would actually be filmed in the Queen City.

Cincinnati has been a popular filming city for the past few decades, with recent movies like "The Bikeriders," "Superman" and others filming in the area. A project believed to be the "Superman" sequel, "Man of Tomorrow," is expected to film in Cincinnati soon.

The Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit database currently does not have any listings with Rose's name or Wahlberg's.

Reds fans are already excited about the idea of the project.

"I mean, that's amazing. Pete Rose, one of the best of all time, the Hit King. How can you not be excited about that?" Reds fan Jack Von Kohorn said.

Von Kohorn said his great-great uncle Al Lakeman was a catcher for the Reds from 1942-1947.

"I'd hope to see just an honest story about (Rose's) managing days and his playing days," Von Kohorn said. "We all know that he bet on baseball, but he bet for his team to win, which is totally different than betting on your team to lose, right?"

We reached out to Film Cincinnati on Monday following Wahlberg's comments. President and CEO Kristen Schlotman said the podcast was the first time they'd heard of the project.

Should the movie move forward, Schlotman said she hopes it's filmed, at least in part, in Cincinnati. She said she reached out to Wahlberg's production company with information about Ohio's Motion Picture Tax Credit to laud the financial incentive of filming in the area.

And Wahlberg isn't the only one with a project about Rose in development. Cincinnati native and former sports broadcaster John Condit and his production company, Cradle Concepts, LLC, are set to release a documentary film next year.

Condit was the last person to interview Rose, sitting down with the baseball legend just 10 days before his death.

"It really became interesting when President Trump began to pressure baseball to reinstate (Rose). And he gets reinstated, and now he could get back into the Hall of Fame," Condit said. "So, it gets really interesting now. Does he get in or not?"

Condit said that vote will happen in December of 2027.

"I think there's going to be a drumbeat," Condit said. "It's going to start out quiet, but it's going to get louder and louder as we get into 2027... that's what my film is going to be about.

Condit said he's excited about the prospect of a major motion picture about Rose's life especially if Wahlberg is involved. He said the film would be "dynamic."

"I think Mark Wahlberg is amazing," Condit said. "If Wahlberg's interested, millions of baseball fans are going to be interested because it's a story like none other."

Jos Soriano struck out 10 over seven shutout innings to become the major leagues' first four-game winner, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Reds 9-6 Sunday for their first series victory at Cincinnati since 2007.

Soriano (4-0) allowed two hits and three walks, throwing 106 pitches and lowering his big league-best ERA to 0.33. He became the first Angels pitcher to win his first four games since Jered Weaver won six straight in 2011.

Los Angeles opened a 9-0 lead in the eighth inning and took two of three for its first series win at the Reds since winning two of three from June 12-14 2007.

Nolan Schanuel had three RBIs, putting the Angels ahead with a wo-run single in the three-run first that included Logan O'Hoppe's single.

Mike Trout, who scored three runs, had an RBI double in the second and scored on Jorge Soler's sacrifice fly. Oswald Peraza homered on the first pitch of the fourth.

Andrew Abbott (0-2) allowed seven runs, matching his career high, and seven earned runs for the first time. He gave up eight hits and a pair of walks in three innings.

Elly De La Cruz hit a three-run homer, his fifth home run this season.

Angels: LHP Yusei Kikuchi (0-2, 6.75 ERA) starts Monday at the New York Yankees, who go with RHP Will Warren (1-0, 3.07)

Reds: RHP Brady Singer (0-1, 7.71) starts Tuesday at San Francisco as the Giants, who start LHP Robbie Ray (2-1, 2.08).

Jorge Soler hit a grand slam in a five-run eighth inning, Zach Neto and Josh Lowe also homered and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-2 on Friday night to snap a seven-game losing streak at Great American Ball Park.

Jack Kochanowicz (2-0) only allowed one run and two hits over seven innings.

Soler also had a two-out double in the third before scoring on Yoan Moncadas infield single for a 2-0 lead.

Netos fifth home run of the season made it 4-0 and Lowe, who was batting .091 (3 for 33) coming in, homered over the left-field wall in the sixth for a 5-1 lead.

Los Angeles improved to .500 or better after 14 games for a sixth straight season, and eighth of nine.

Cincinnati's Chase Burns (1-1) gave up five earned runs, seven hits and four walks over 5 1/3 innings.

Sal Stewart entered leading all rookies with 16 hits, eight extra-base hits, and 32 total bases before going 0 for 3 against the Angels.

Eugenio Surez had Cincinnati's only hit through four and he added the Reds' second hit on a single in the sixth. Elly De La Cruz hit his fourth homer of the season in the ninth.

Los Angeles last win in Cincinnati came on April 1, 2013, in the first interleague Opening Day game in MLB history.

Los Angeles RHP George Klassen (0-0, 6.75 ERA), who took a no-decision in his major league debut on April 5, goes against Cincinnati LHP Brandon Williamson (1-1, 4.76), who picked up his first major league victory on April 6.

The Reds are going full ... well, red, for their newest City Connect uniforms.

After going all black in years past, Cincinnati will debut red jerseys and pants with dark red sleeves, black numbers and white lettering during Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels.

"Red is at the center of this next chapter in our City Connect story," Karen Forgus Bowman, the team's chief communications officer, said in a release. "Bringing it forward in this fresh new way speaks to the energy of todays players and fans being rooted in the eras of Reds baseball that continue through them."

The new uniforms include classic pinstripes in "a modern tone-on-tone style" with a sleeve graphic featuring the Tyler Davidson Fountain, which begins flowing every year in time for the Reds season opener.

While fans online were wondering if Cincinnati's jerseys would be a sleeveless version like in decades past, the Reds said they made this jersey's sleeve a darker shade with pinstripes intentionally cut off at the shoulder to nod to the popular vest styles.

Fans who love the "City Connect 1.0" uniforms fear not: The Reds will still wear those black jerseys and pants at Friday home games. Cincinnati will have "City Connect Weekends," with players wearing black on Friday and red on Saturday beginning this weekend.

Both City Connect uniforms will be available for purchase at the Reds Team Shop at Great American Ball Park or at select retail locations.

Griffin Conine and Connor Norby homered to lead the Miami Marlins past the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 on Wednesday night.

Xavier Edwards and Jakob Marsee each had two hits and an RBI for the Marlins, who snapped Cincinnati's five-game winning streak.

Miami starter Eury Prez (1-1) allowed four runs two earned and six hits over five innings. The right-hander struck out six and walked one as he shook off a difficult outing in his previous start, when he walked six and hit a batter with a pitch in four innings.

Ryan Gusto, Andrew Nardi and Lake Bachar followed Prez with an inning each. Michael Petersen pitched around two singles in a scoreless ninth for his first career save.

Run-scoring singles from Marsee and Edwards off Reds starter Brady Singer (0-1) in the second put Miami ahead for good at 4-2.

Conine expanded the lead with a two-run drive in the third. He drove a sinker from Singer over the wall in right field for his second homer this season.

Miami native Sal Stewart hit a two-run homer in the fifth to narrow the deficit to 6-4 before Norby connected off Connor Phillips in the seventh. Norbys homer ended a string of 10 2/3 scoreless innings by Cincinnati relievers in the series.

Singer gave up six runs, five earned, and 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The Reds struck quickly with two unearned runs in the first. Elly De La Cruz scored from second when Miami third baseman Graham Pauley booted Stewarts two-out grounder. Stewart then scored on Eugenio Surezs RBI double.

The lead was short-lived, as the Marlins tied it in the bottom half on Agustn Ramrez's run-scoring double and Liam Hicks RBI single.

Reds RHP Rhett Lowder (1-0, 1.64 ERA) starts the series finale Thursday against RHP Max Meyer (0-0, 4.66).

Anthony Bender threw a game-tying wild pitch with two outs in the ninth inning after Cincinnati chased Sandy Alcantara and Nathaniel Lowe hit a go-ahead single that sparked a four-run 10th, leading the Reds over the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Tuesday night for a five-game winning streak.

Matt McLain doubled twice and had two RBIs as Cincinnati improved to 5-0 on the road and at 8-3 overall, matched its best start since 2011.

Alcantara had a two-hit shutout entering the ninth and had not allowed a run in 24 innings this season. Miami backed him with run-scoring groundouts by Otto Lopez and Heriberto Hernndez in the second against Andrew Abbott.

McLain doubled with one out in the ninth, Elly De La Cruz walked and Bender relieved. The Reds pulled off a double steal, Sal Stewart hit a sacrifice fly and Bender's wild pitch gave him his second blown save.

Lowe singled for a 3-2 lead in the 10th off Calvin Faucher (1-1). McLain hit a two-run double and De La Cruz added an RBI grounder for a 6-2 margin.

Graham Pauley had a run-scoring grounder in the bottom half before Graham Ashcraft got Connor Norby to ground into a game-ending double play.

Emilio Pagn (1-0) walked two in the ninth and escaped a second-and-third, one-out jam by striking out Agustn Ramrez and retiring Jakob Marsee on a flyout.

Cincinnati had been the last team in the major leagues without an error before McLain was called for obstruction at second base in the sixth inning on what had appeared to be a caught stealing.

Reds RHP Brady Singer (0-0, 5.00) starts opposite Marlins RHP Eury Perez (0-1, 5.73) in the third game of the four-game series.

Elly De La Cruz doubled and singled, Tyler Stephenson homered and four Cincinnati pitchers combined for a shutout as the Reds beat the Miami Marlins 2-0 on Monday night.

Brandon Williamson (1-1) scattered three hits over 6 2/3 innings. After a difficult season debut in which he gave up six runs and six hits against Pittsburgh on March 31, the 28-year-old left-hander struck out four and walked one. He kept the Marlins hitless until Otto Lpezs two-out single in the fourth.

The Reds, who won their fourth straight, began Monday tied with San Francisco for the fewest runs scored in the majors with 26. They scored nine runs in their three-game sweep at Texas over the weekend.

Miami native Sal Stewart drove in Cincinnatis first run with a single off Marlins starter Janson Junk in the fourth. De La Cruz hit a one-out double and raced home on Stewarts line drive up the middle.

Stephenson extended the lead with his leadoff homer in the eighth. He drove a slider from Junk over the wall in left for his second homer of the season.

Brock Burke relieved Williamson and struck out Xavier Edwards for the third out in the seventh. Anthony Santillan pitched the eighth before Emilio Pagan closed for his fourth save.

Agustin Ramirez tripled with two outs in the sixth, but Williamson fanned Jakob Marsee to end Miamis only threat.

Junk (0-1) gave up two runs and seven hits in a career-high 7 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked one.

Edwards went 0 for 3, ending his 12-game hit streak that began with the final three games of last season.

LHP Andrew Abbott (0-1, 3.09) will start for the Reds on Tuesday against Marlins RHP Sandy Alcantara (2-0, 0.00).

Elly De La Cruz singled home the winning run in the eighth inning after scoring in the fourth inning with the use of his speed as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Texas Rangers 2-1 on Sunday to sweep the three-game weekend series.

De La Cruz sliced an opposite-field hit to right field to score Matt McLain, who walked leading off the inning against Robert Garcia (0-1) and stole second base.

De La Cruz scored from second base in the fourth on Eugenio Surezs single up the middle after singling and tagging up on Sal Stewarts 358-foot fly out to the warning track in right.

Sam Moll (1-0) retired one batter, striking out Brandon Nimmo with runners on second and third to end Texas seventh. Cincinnatis Brock Burke struck out the side in the ninth for his first career save in 210 career relief appearances.

Texas tied the score 1-1 in the seventh on a home run by Joc Pederson that ended the major leaguers longest hitless start by a batter this season at 16 at-bats. After Pederson saw his fly ball barely clear the wall, he flung his bat toward the Rangers dugout.

The Rangers have lost four consecutive games and scored one run in the series final 20 innings.

Reds starter Chase Burns allowed one run and five hits in six-plus innings.

Rangers starter Jack Leiter gave up one run and four hits in five innings.

Cincinnati was 3 for 14 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on base. Texas was 0 for 6 and left eight.

Nimmo singled twice and has reached base in all nine Rangers games.

Rhett Lowder allowed three hits over six innings as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Texas Rangers 2-0 on Saturday night, giving the right-hander his first win since 2024 after missing all of last season because of injuries.

Graham Ashcraft, Tony Santillan and Emilio Pagn each worked a scoreless inning to wrap up the Reds second shutout this season. Pagn matched the early MLB lead with his third save, his second in as many days, benefitting from a double play while walking two and giving up a two-out single.

Cincinnati got their runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Elly De La Cruz and Sal Stewart in the first off Kumar Rocker (0-1) before Lowder (1-0) had even thrown the first of his 82 pitches in his second start this season.

Lowder struck out four and gave up two leadoff walks. After allowing back-to-back singles with two outs in the first, the Rangers didn't get another runner to second base against him. He retired 12 of his last 13 batters he faced.

Texas, which has lost its first two home games and three games in a row overall, was held scoreless for the first time.

The seventh overall pick out of Wake Forest in the 2023 draft, Lowder made his big league debut in the final month of the 2024 season when he was 2-2 with a 1.17 ERA in six starts. He missed all of last season with because of a right forearm strain and then a left oblique strain.

Rocker struck out three in his five innings.

Matt McLain had a one-out single in the Reds first before a wild pitch. De La Cruz drove him home with a broken-bat single, then scored from first when Stewart lined a single into right-center on a hit-ad-run play.

Chase Burns (1-0, 0.00 ERA), who got his first big league win Monday, pitches for the Reds in the series finale Sunday. Jack Leiter (1-0, 3.00) goes for Texas.

Tyler Stephenson hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the ninth inning and the Cincinnati Reds won in their first road game this season, a 5-3 victory to spoil the home opener for the Texas Rangers on Friday.

Spencer Steer and Elly Del La Cruz also homered for the Reds.

Steer opened the ninth with a double off reliever Chris Martin (1-1) before Stephenson lined a full-count pitch into the Rangers' bullpen in right-center for his first homer.

Tony Santillian (1-0), the fourth of five Reds pitchers, pitched a perfect eighth inning. Emilio Pagn worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.

The Rangers played their first home game for new manager Skip Schumaker after taking two of three games in series at Philadelphia and Baltimore. The last time they played six games before their home opener was 2008.

Steer's two-run homer in the second and De La Cruz going deep to lead off the sixth both came off MacKenzie Gore, the All-Star left-hander that came to Texas from Washington in January in a trade for five prospects. It was the third homer, all solo shots, for De La Cruz this season.

Gore struck out nine without a walk while allowing those three runs over six innings in his first home start.

Texas got even at 2 in the bottom of the second on No. 9 batter Danny Jansen's double under the the glove of diving left fielder Steer off Brady Singer, the Reds starter who struck out five and walked one while pitching into the sixth.

Brandon Nimmo had a one-out triple in the Texas seventh before Wyatt Langford's RBI double for a 3-3 tie.

Reds right-hander Rhett Lowder, still a rookie after making his MLB debut in 2024 and then missing all of 2025 because of forearm and oblique strains, makes his second start this season Saturday. Rangers right-hander Kumar Rocker, their No. 5 starter, makes his season debut.

Oneil Cruz had a three-run homer, his third in two games, Paul Skenes allowed one run in five innings and the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 8-3 on Wednesday to take the three-game series.

Bryan Reynolds had a two-run shot, and Nick Gonzales added a two-run double during the ninth inning.

Eugenio Surez had a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the sixth inning for the Reds.

Cruz went 5 for 13 with three home runs and six RBIs in the series. The power-hitting outfielder has gone deep nine times in the 19 games he has played in Cincinnati.

Reds starter Andrew Abbott (0-1) retired the first two Pirates hitters before Bryan Reynolds singled to right and Marcell Ozuna drew a walk. Cruz then connected on a 2-1 curveball that was over the bottom part of the plate and drove it 407 feet over the wall in right field.

Skenes (1-1) returned to his All-Star form after giving up five runs in two-thirds of an inning last Thursday in the season opener against the New York Mets. The reigning NL Cy Young winner allowed three hits, walked two and struck out five.

The right-hander gave up two walks in the first three innings before Elly De La Cruz led off the fourth with a base hit to right. Two batters later, Nathaniel Lowe had an RBI double to right-center, snapping the Reds 31-inning scoreless streak against Skenes.

Pittsburgh took a 4-1 lead in the sixth when Cruz scored after Spencer Horwitz was walked by Connor Phillips with the bases loaded.

Surez got the Reds within a run in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run homer to left, his second of the season.

Pirates: Have their home opener on Friday against Baltimore. RHP Mitch Keller (0-0, 0.00 ERA) gets the start.

Reds: Open a seven-game road trip on Friday against Texas. RHP Brady Singer (0-0, 6.75 ERA) makes his second start.

Oneil Cruz homered twice and Ryan OHearn hit a three-run shot as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-3 on Tuesday night.

OHearn and Bryan Reynolds went back-to-back in the second inning. Cruz finished with three hits and three RBIs. He also scored three times.

The Reds were held hitless until Jose Trevino singled off reliever Hunter Barco with one out in the seventh. Pirates rookie starter Bubba Chandler tossed 4 1/3 innings with six strikeouts, but also walked six.

Sal Stewart and Elly De La Cruz hit consecutive homers off Barco to trim the Pirates' lead to 6-3 in the eighth.

Pittsburgh manager Don Kelly was ejected in the eighth for arguing with plate umpire Jordan Baker.

Cruz hit a solo homer in the fourth off left-hander Brandon Williamson, then provided insurance for Pittsburgh with a two-run homer off Pierce Johnson in the ninth.

Williamson made his first major league appearance since Sept. 1, 2024. He missed last season following left elbow surgery.

Williamson (0-1) allowed consecutive homers in the second to O'Hearn and Reynolds that made it 5-0.

It was the 139th career homer for Reynolds, tying Jason Bay for ninth on the franchise list.

Chandler issued three walks in the third but allowed only one run, helped when TJ Friedl popped into a double play attempting to bunt.

The Reds' first run scored when Reynolds and Cruz allowed Ke'Bryan Hayes' flyball to drop between them in left-center. It was initially ruled a single but later changed to an error on Reynolds in left, keeping the no-hit bid intact for a while.

Cincinnati had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth but Yohan Ramrez (1-0) struck out Matt McLain and De La Cruz to end the inning.

Pirates: RHP Paul Skenes (0-1) looks to rebound from a rough opener Wednesday.

Reds: LHP Andrew Abbott (0-0) tossed six shutout innings last Thursday.

Chase Burns allowed one hit in five innings for his first major league win, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 2-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night.

Burns (1-0) walked three and struck out seven, including Jared Triolo with two on and two outs in the fourth. Jose Franco retired five batters before leaving with two on. Graham Ashcraft struck out Henry Davis to end the seventh and fanned two more in a scoreless eighth. Conner Phillips walked Marcell Ozuna and Ryan O'Hearn before retiring three straight for his first career save.

Elly De La Cruz singled leading off the fourth against Braxton Ashcraft (0-1) for the Reds but was thrown out trying to steal second. Sal Stewart walked, took third on a single by Eugenio Surez and scored on a sacrifice fly by Spencer Steer. Surez scored on a triple by Will Benson to cap the scoring in a third straight win for Cincinnati.

Braxton Ashcraft (0-1) gave up two runs on four hits and four walks over six innings in his ninth career start. Isaac Mattson pitched the seventh and Justin Lawrence struck out the side in the eighth.

Stewart, the reigning NL player of the week, went 1 for 2 and walked twice. He is 8 for 12 at the plate through the first four games.

Burns went 0-3 with a 4.57 ERA in eight starts over 13 appearances for the Reds last season.

Pirates RHP Bubba Chandler will square off with Reds LHP Brandon Williamson on Tuesday in their first starts of the season.

Eugenio Suarez hit a three-run home run and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 on Sunday to win their season-opening series.

Suarezs homer, his first since rejoining the Reds this offseason, came on an 0-2 pitch from Greg Weissert with two runners aboard in the sixth to put Cincinnati ahead 3-2.

It was his 190th homer in a Reds uniform, one shy of Brandon Phillips for 12th on the franchises all-time list.

Wilyer Abreu went 6 for 13 for Boston in the three-game series with two home runs, two doubles and four RBIs.

Connelly Early, 23, was the youngest pitcher to start one of the Red Sox first three games in a season since Jeff Sellers in 1987 and the youngest left-hander to do so since Billy Rohr in 1967.

Early pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 96 pitches.

Reds rookie Rhett Lowder made his first appearance since Sept. 28, 2024, after missing the entire 2025 season with both a right forearm strain and left oblique strain.

Abreu, who tied the score in the ninth on Saturday with a two-out solo homer, hit a two-run homer off Lowder in the fourth to put Boston ahead 2-0.

Lowder allowed two runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts on 86 pitches through five innings.

The Red Sox had runners on first and third in the eighth, but Tony Santillan struck out Caleb Durbin to end the inning.

They had the tying and go-ahead runners aboard in the ninth, but Emilio Pagan got Trevor Story to fly out to center for the final out.

Reds designated hitter Sal Stewart, who went 7 for 10 in the series, went 2 for 2 with a double and two walks.

Red Sox: Left-hander Ranger Suarez is scheduled to start Monday's series opener in Houston.

Reds: Right-hander Chase Burns is scheduled to start Monday's series opener in Pittsburgh.

The Cincinnati Reds fell to the Boston Red Sox 3-0 on Opening Day.

Despite a great pitching performance from ace Andrew Abbott, the Reds struggled to get things going offensively. Cincinnati had only one hit until the sixth inning, when back-to-back singles by Elly De La Cruz and Sal Stewart loaded the bases for Eugenio Suarez and Spencer Steer. Both struck out swinging to keep things 0-0.

Reliever Pierce Johnson came in for Abbott in the seventh, immediately giving up a double to Red Sox pinch-hitter Marcelo Mayer. A sacrifice bunt by Carlos Narvaez and line-drive single by Ceddanne Rafaela brought Mayer in for the first run of the game.

Manager Terry Francona pulled Johnson, replacing him with lefty Sam Moll, who finished out the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, leadoff hitter Tyler Stephenson got a walk with the help of the ABS challenge system. Still, the Reds couldn't move him beyond first base. Again in the eighth, a two-out double by Stewart put the tying run on base. Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock struck out Suarez.

The Reds finished the game 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

In the ninth, Trevor Story and Jarren Duran hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Red Sox two more insurance runs. Those hits came after the ABS challenge system overturned a Roman Anthony strikeout.

Former Red Aroldis Chapman closed things out for Boston, with Steer, Stephenson and pinch-hitter Dane Myers all flying out in the bottom of the ninth.

The two teams will play again Saturday at 4:10 p.m.

The Cincinnati Reds have unveiled 15 new menu items for the 2026 season along with new features at Great American Ball Park.

This news outlet got a preview of the expanded selection of food, beverage and retail offerings Friday less than a week before Opening Day, March 26.

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval said he hadnt gotten the chance to try all the new offerings, but was looking forward to making the rounds. He said hed definitely be having a coney.

As for Opening Day, Pureval said the day is an official holiday here in Cincinnati.

Were really hoping for a really exciting and safe Opening Day, and a start to a wonderful season, he said, citing the generations of Cincinnatians who visit the city on Opening Day and optimism for the Reds season.

As for food and concession items, Executive Chef Gary Davis has added 15 new menu items, inspired by all of the chefs and managers he works alongside. The menu has been in the works since October 2025.

We talk about what weve seen at other ball parks, what caught peoples eye to try to be in a good spot with social media, said Davis, who has worked as executive chef for GABP since 2018.

Though he said he was trying to decide on a top 3-5 items, the list just goes on.

It is a really big line up, and its really hard to choose for this upcoming season, he said.

Cincinnati Reds left-handed pitcher Nick Lodolo will open the season on the injured list as he recovers from a blister on his left index finger.

Lodolo, 28, had thrown just 10 pitches in his last Cactus League start on Sunday before the blister caused his exit. He also dealt with blister issues on that finger each of the last two seasons.

I think theres a little bit of concern right now with the breaking ball, that he would go rip one off, Cincinnati manager Terry Francona said after the Reds exhibition game with the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. And if we tried to reach for something that we shouldnt and he throws an inning or two, and then we turn it into a month. We dont want him to miss any time, but if he misses a couple of starts, thats a heck of a lot better than a month. So thats what were going to do.

Lodolo acknowledged disappointment about starting on the injured list, but noted that its something that could work in our favor in the long run, given the likelihood it assures he wont risk missing extended time.

Hopefully next week, somewhere in there, be able to throw a sim game or throw like a rehab start and continue to build up and be able to just test it without it being in a game, Lodolo said.

Lodolo went 9-8 with a 3.33 ERA in 29 appearances last year while striking out 156 batters in 156 2/3 innings.

His injury means the Reds will open the season without two members of their preferred starting rotation as they attempt to build on their 83-79 finish from last year that resulted in their first playoff berth since 2020.

Hunter Greene, a 2024 All-Star, underwent elbow surgery two weeks ago and could miss up to the first four months of the season. Greene went 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 107 2/3 innings last season.

Andrew Abbott will start the Reds season opener Thursday against the Boston Red Sox. Brady Singer and Rhett Lowder are scheduled to start the final two games of the Red Sox series, with Chase Burns and Brandon Williamson starting the first two games of a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Just in time for Opening Day, former Reds All-Star and NL MVP Joey Votto is giving back to the team and Cincinnati with a custom-made clock that will sit outside Great American Ball Park.

Votto said the clock is a thank you for his 22 years spent with the Reds organization.

"I am excited about giving the clock to the city, the team and its fans," Votto said. "Being the oldest professional team, I wanted this clock to add to the charm and mystique of the Cincinnati Reds experience."

The large red clock, which matches the team's exact shade of red, was crafted by Cincinnati's The Verdin Company and stands at 16 feet 8 inches tall with four 36-inch dials. Each clock face displays the word "Cincinnati" at the top and "Reds" along the bottom, with the iconic Reds "C" centered on each.

The Verdin Company's CEO, Bob Verdin III, said Votto was involved in planning every detail of the clock.

The clock, which sits in Crosley Terrace, just outside the ballpark's main entrance, isn't just any normal clock, either. Votto's gift features speakers that can play hourly chimes and a variety of songs, such as "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

"Joey wanted the clock to enhance our shared love of baseball, so we are collaborating with Joey and Verdin for fun ways to integrate it into our games," said Reds President and CEO Phil Castellini.

At the bottom of the clock sits a bronze plaque honoring Votto's contributions to the organization, reading "Thank you, Cincinnati" with Votto's signature underneath.

"We are incredibly grateful and honored to have this beautiful clock adorn the front gates," Castellini said. "Joey made us proud every time he stepped onto the field. And this one-of-a-kind gift from him will continue to inspire and excite everyone who sees it."

Votto said he hopes the clock allows him to still be a part of all the "massive moments" that will continue to happen at the ballpark.

"Joey wanted the clock to enhance our shared love of baseball, so we are collaborating with Joey and Verdin for fun ways to integrate it into our games," Castellini said.

Votto was first drafted by the Reds in 2002 and spent his entire Major League career with Cincinnati until 2023. Throughout his tenure with the team, he earned six All-Star appearances and won the 2010 National League MVP Award, among several other honors.

In January, it was reported that Votto was in talks to be the newest addition to the NBC Sports MLB broadcast team. According to a report from Front Office Sports, the network was finalizing deals to make Votto a part of the team with Clayton Kershaw and Anthony Rizzo.

It's finally Cincinnati's favorite unofficial holiday Reds Opening Day.

The Cincinnati Reds will take on the Boston Red Sox at Great American Ball Park. But action starts far before the game itself.

Opening Day pregame ceremonies are scheduled to kick off around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by former Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo.

The official game ball will be delivered by Sharonville native and 2026 Olympic gold medalist Connor Curran.

Andrew Abbott is set as the starting pitcher to kick off the Reds official season.

And we can't forget the game's Honorary Captain, Dave Concepcin. He's a Reds Hall of Famer and member of the Big Red Machine.

The Reds are set to take on the Boston Red Sox at 4:10 p.m. Thursday.

Starting at 11 a.m., the Reds Community Fund Block Party kicks off.

The block party will be held at Joe Nuxhall Way, Marian Spencer Way and Freedom Way. Food and drinks will be available to buy from local vendors, and live music and entertainment will happen from 11 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., ahead of the start of the game.

The block party will stop providing alcohol sales at around 3:30 p.m. and festivities will wrap at 4 p.m., before first pitch.

The annual Findlay Market Opening Day Parade kicks off Opening Day in Cincinnati.

This year's grand marshal was the Cowboy, former Reds pitcher Jeff Brantley. Most recently, Brantley has been a Reds broadcaster alongside legend Marty Brennaman. Earlier this year, Brantley won Ohio Sportscaster of the Year for 2025 by the National Sports Media Association his first time winning the award.

A cold front moves in from the north late Thursday night, bringing a line of showers and storms. These keep looking later and later, likely not getting to areas north of Greater Cincinnati until closer to midnight now. They may not get to Cincy until 3 a.m., followed by some leftover heavier rain in northern Kentucky into Friday morning

The grand marshal for this year's Findlay Market Opening Day Parade will be former Reds pitcher Jeff Brantley.

Brantley, nicknamed "Cowboy" during his time with the Reds, will ring the bell to start the parade, which will be held on March 26. The parade will begin at noon and is expected to go until 3 p.m. The Opening Day game will start at 4:10 p.m., as the Reds take on the Boston Red Sox at Great American Ball Park.

Most recently, Brantley has been a Reds broadcaster alongside legend Marty Brennaman. Earlier this year, Brantley won Ohio Sportscaster of the Year for 2025 by the National Sports Media Association his first time winning the award.

Brantley pitched 14 seasons in in Major League Baseball, including four for the Cincinnati Reds between 1994 and 1997. He also led the National League with 44 saves for the Reds in 1996.

Brantley, an Alabama native, was drafted into the MLB in 1985, chosen by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round.

The Findlay Market Opening Day Parade signals the start of baseball season in Cincinnati each year; The parade itself has been held for over a century it celebrated its 100th birthday back in 2019.

Here's a breakdown of the events happening during Opening Day festivities:

Cincinnati Reds reliever Caleb Ferguson is dealing with an oblique strain and isn't expected to be available for the start of the season.

Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters that Ferguson has a mild right oblique strain.

The Reds signed Ferguson to a one-year, $4.5 million contract in December.

Ferguson, 29, made a career-high 70 appearances last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners. He went a combined 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA with 51 strikeouts over 65 1/3 innings.

He made three postseason appearances with Seattle and allowed five runs over 2 2/3 innings.

Ferguson owns a combined 24-17 record with a 3.66 ERA and six saves in a career that has included stops with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2018-23), New York Yankees (2024), Houston Astros (2024), Pirates and Mariners.

The news regarding Ferguson comes as the Reds are already preparing to open the season without right-hander Hunter Greene, who has an elbow injury that could cause him to miss up to four months. Greene went 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA in 19 starts last season after earning an All-Star Game appearance and finishing eighth in the Cy Young Award balloting in 2024.

We knew Reds ace Hunter Greene would likely miss time after leaving spring training with elbow stiffness. Now, we know just how long he might be gone.

Multiple reports say the 26-year-old is not expected to return until July, as he is scheduled to have a procedure to remove bone chips from his right elbow this week.

Reds manager Terry Francona and president of baseball operations Nick Krall told reporters last week that Greene would have an MRI in Cincinnati and consult with both the team's orthopedic consultant and the Dodgers' head team physician after dealing with elbow issues during training camp.

Greene has dealt with these issues in the past. He was placed on the IL in 2024 for right elbow soreness, and mentioned that his right elbow was causing issues towards the end of the 2025 season. Projected to be the team's opening day starter, Greene spoke this offseason about his goal to "be healthy and make all my starts" after only starting in a career-low 19 games in 2025.

Now, Andrew Abbott will take the mound on opening day, and Greene will be forced to wait until sometime mid-season to make his first start.

Greene helped Cincinnati to its first playoff appearance since 2020 last season, going 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA. The previous year, he got his first All-Star spot and finished eighth in NL Cy Young voting.

In a social media statement Wednesday, Greene said he pushed through elbow pain last year in an effort to help the Reds get to the playoffs.

"All I want to do is play the game I love and compete with my brothers as we take on the 2026 season," the statement said. "Trust me, nobody is more frustrated than I am."

Right-hander Hunter Greene has left the Cincinnati Reds' spring training camp due to right elbow stiffness.

Manager Terry Francona and president of baseball operations Nick Krall told reporters on Wednesday that Greene will have an MRI in Cincinnati and be examined by team orthopedic consultant Dr. Timothy Kremchek. Greene also will consult with Los Angeles Dodgers head team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

Expected to be the Reds' ace, Greene added more lower-body work to his offseason routine in hopes of avoiding injuries.

Greene went 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA last year, helping Cincinnati earn an NL wild card for its first playoff appearance since 2020. Greene whose 99.5 mph average four-seam fastball velocity led the major leagues among those throwing at least 1,250 pitches, was limited to a career-low 19 starts and 107 2/3 innings. Still, his 296 pitches of 100 mph or higher were second in the major leagues behind Mason Miller's 422.

Greene was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 9 with a right groin strain. He returned on May 23 and made three starts before going back on the IL with the same injury. This time, he was sidelined until Aug. 13.

Greene, 26, is entering his fifth big league season. He made the NL All-Star team for the first time in 2024 while going 9-5 with a 2.75 ERA in 26 starts. He also had 169 strikeouts in 150 1/3 innings despite spending time on the IL that year with elbow soreness.

The Cincinnati Reds have chosen Bob Castellini's successor.

Phil Castellini, Bob Castellini's son, was approved as the team's new owner, the Reds confirmed to WCPO Thursday.

"This was the conclusion of the process that was started when the Reds announced organizational changes in July of 2024 naming Phil president and CEO, and Doug Healy as COO and CFO," the Reds said in a statement.

Those changes went into effect in August 2024.

Bob Castellini held the position for the last 20 years.
