P&G Scope April Fools joke leaves salty taste of bacon

CINCINNATI - Fans of bacon were elated on Monday, then crestfallen.

As part of an elaborate April Fools joke, local consumer product giant Proctor & Gamble sold ad space, created a promotional video and set up a website for Scope Bacon Mouthwash.

The new flavor promised a product that "tastes like bacon" while killing 99.9 percent of germs and that kept "your minty fresh 5 times longer than brushing alone."

USA Today on Monday reported P&G employees created the joke to make a little fun of themselves.

"The country's obsession with all things bacon led us to poke a little fun at ourselves,"  Marketing Director for P&G Rishi Dhingra told the newspaper.

As of Tuesday, April 2 the Scope Bacon Mouthwash website was still up at http://www.scopemouthwash.com/bacon/.
