CINCINNATI - Pieces of an ATM machine and a running piece of construction equipment left a puzzling story for police in Mount Adams Monday morning.
A Fifth Third Bank's ATM was left shattered after a suspect attempted to break in to the machine on Celestial Street at some point early Monday morning. 9 On Your Side arrived on the scene just before police at about 5:30 a.m.
Duke Energy crews were first called to the scene because of a power outage. When they arrived, they noticed the ATM had been broken into and the crews then alerted police. The crews also saw a front loader construction truck that still had its engine running.
Police say someone drove the front loader truck into the ATM. It's unclear how much money, if any, was stolen, according to police.
The front loader truck was stolen from the Montgomery Inn Boathouse and was driven through Mount Adams before it was used to break into the ATM.
Police say the thief struck power lines during the robbery, knocking out power to about half the residents at a local apartment complex.
Both lanes of Celestial Street are shut down while police investigate the robbery.
