CINCINNATI - WCPO and the Home Ownership Center are teaming up to help homeowners facing foreclosure by holding a Foreclosure Prevention Phone-A-Thon.
The phone number to call is 1-877-7BUZZUS. Beginning at 6 a.m., you will be able to reach certified housing counselors. The phone lines will stay open until 11:30 p.m.
This is the sixth phone-a-thon that WCPO has supported because so many people are behind in their mortgage payments. It used to be that people bought more house than they could afford and couldn't keep up the payments, according to Rick Williams with the Home Ownership Center. However unemployment and lower wages are the reasons people may be in trouble and should pick up the phone.
"We will take a full application. Once the application is completed, within a week to two weeks they will be directly associated with a counselor. That counselor will call them back and give them a full landscape or a work plan on what they have to do to either save or retain their home," said Williams.
The most recent phone-a-thon generated about 1,500 cases and more than 30 percent were successful.
