CINCINNATI — A pregnant woman is in the hospital and her boyfriend is dead after a shooting in Cincinnati's Northside neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

Police said Jazmyne Jones and Anthony Billups were inside Northside Flats Apartments on Kentucky Avenue at around 3 p.m. when bullets fired in the parking lot went through the glass and hit them. Billups died and a bullet hit Jones' knee.

Loved ones said Billups and Jones were helping her little sister move out of her apartment when the shooting happened.

Neighbor Charlene Benton said the sister's ex-boyfriend, Deonte Wilson, and his brother, Darrius, showed up at the complex.

“Three guys — one got out of the car and went into the house saying something about a TV,” said Benton. The other two, they stayed back. But then, they stepped out of the car and when they stepped out of the car, [Billups] told him don’t pull out no guns.”

Police arrested Deonte and Darrius Wilson by 1 a.m. Monday. Their arrest affidavits said the crime was captured on camera and both men fired shots.

In court, attorneys argued for a bond of $100,000. The judge set both bonds at $250,000.

The family of the mother-to-be said she underwent surgery to remove the bullet. They expect her and the baby to be OK physically.

Family members said they called 911 one hour before the shooting, saying Deonte Wilson was threatening to show up at the apartment with a gun. Officers did not arrive until after the shooting occurred.

WCPO requested 911 calls as well as a statement on the officers' arrival times.

Billups' death marks the 42nd homicide this year. In the same period in 2021, there were 49 homicides in Cincinnati.
