Water main breaks, extreme cold wreak havoc on Cincinnati roadways

CINCINNATI -- Water works crews had their hands full Tuesday morning across the Queen City as water main breaks kept popping up.

One of the first reported breaks was on Kellogg Avenue at the water treatment center.

Crews said water spilled out onto the roadway, forcing them to scramble to fix it before everything froze.

A plow truck driver was called in to put down salt in that instance to try to make roadway conditions safe for drivers.

Workers said they were also called to water main breaks at:

  • Virginia Avenue at Washburn Street
  • Erie Avenue at Tarpis Avenue
  • Harrison Avenue at Montana Avenue

Northern Kentucky crews were also busy at North Fort Thomas Avenue and Holly Lane on Tuesday morning. Workers there said the temperature was so cold, the water from the main break froze some nearby cars to the road.
