Construction begins on new Fields-Ertel, Mason-Montgomery Road

WARREN COUNTY, Ohio – Work began for the new "loop ramp" at the Fields-Ertel and Mason-Montgomery Road area on I-71 Tuesday.

Ground was broke on the project in Warren County, where drivers and local officials were hopeful it leads to safety and convenience.

"Today we break ground on perhaps the most important transportation project, not only in Warren County, but really one of the most important throughout the region.  Start with the Brent Spence Bridge, then Fields-Ertel right there on the list," said Warren County Commissioner Dave Young.

Having already completed an extra lane to the southbound exit on I-71, the new loop ramp will allow drivers on northbound I-71 to bypass the current exit ramp and continue to northbound Mason-Montgomery Road. The hope is the reconfigured road will cut down on traffic issues by 50 percent.

Drivers in Warren County said the congestion is dangerous and traffic is backed up all day and the project will hopefully reach its goal.

"Green means go and we're ready to go, so, it's go time," said Deefield Township resident Frank Thompson.

The loop-ramp should be wrapped up by the fall of 2015.
