Molitor tosses shutout, scores lone run

Junior right-hander Hayden Molitor tossed his first shutout of the season and scored the game’s lone run in Lloyd’s 1-0 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday.

Molitor scattered four hits and neither walked nor hit any batters.

Sophomore second baseman Tyler Breeden singled to left, plating Molitor in the bottom of the fifth.

SCOTT 8, GRANT COUNTY 4 – Eagles senior third baseman Nick Brinkman smacked a two-out, two-run single in decisive five-run sixth inning that broke the game open.

Scott senior shortstop Reed Spata opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first, and he helped put it away with a run-scoring base hit in the seventh.

Sophomore right-hander C.J. Seay allowed two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings to earn his fourth win of the season for Scott.

RYLE 5, WYANDOTTE (Mich.) ROOSEVELT 0 – Sophomore right-hander Jake Ziegelmeyer tossed a three-hit shutout for his first career win with the Raiders.

Senior center fielder Jeremy Downs singled home senior left fielder Mason Forbes to ignite Ryle’s offense.

WALTON-VERONA 4, BEECHWOOD 1 – Senior first baseman Curtis Bramkamp’s RBI double in the bottom of the sixth for the Bearcats’ eventual winning RBI.

Bramkamp’s hit made it 2-1, and freshman second baseman Jeremy Moran laid down a suicide squeeze to extend Walton-Verona’s lead to two.

Bearcats senior right-hander Christian Lohr went the distance, scattering four hits en route to his third win of the season.

HIGHLANDS 13, NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 6 – Junior shortstop Jake Whitford went 4-for-4, drove in five runs and scored three to pace the Bluebirds.

Whitford lifted a sacrifice fly in the first inning, tripled home two in the fourth and smacked a two-run single in the seventh to help ice it.

Highlands junior designated hitter Todd Ramey added RBI base hits in the first and seventh innings.
