Colonels beat up on Anderson

Covington Catholic got back in the win column with runaway, 80-37 win over Anderson on Saturday afternoon in the Royal 8 Hardwood Classic at Fairfield High School.

The Colonels (14-1), who suffered their first loss of the season to host Fairfield on Friday night, scored 30 points in the first quarter on Saturday and started spelling starters by early in the second quarter. Coach Scott Ruthsatz played all his kids, with the reserves going most of the rest of the way.

Senior guard Nick Ruthsatz led the way in scoring with just 13 points, as juniors Cooper Theobald and Matt Schumate added 11 apiece.

CovCath will play Cincinnati St. Xavier on Monday in the Hardwood Classic for fifth place. Tipoff will be at 4:30 p.m.

DIXIE HEIGHTS 81, CONNER 62 — Senior guard Brandon Hatton scored 35 points, including a career-high seven 3-pointers, as the Colonels ran away from Conner early. Juniors Liam Rabe and Andrew Hedger added 16 and 12 points, respectfully, as Dixie extended its winning streak to six games.

The Cougars tried to pitch a second-half comeback, scoring 24 points in the third quarter, but Dixie matched with 24 of their own. The teams scored 14 apiece in the fourth quarter, as well.

Conner was led by Landon Lamblez's 21 points.

ST. HENRY 59, BOONE COUNTY 53 — The Crusaders outlasted Boone County down the stretch, pulling away from a halftime 29-all tie.

Senior center Jordan Noble and junior Connor Kunstek paced St. Henry with 15 points apiece, while the Rebels got a game-high 22 from junior Brenden Stanley.
