CINCINNATI - The Bengals have re-signed cornerback Adam Jones as an unrestricted free agent.

Jones, a seventh-year NFL player in 2013, will be in his fourth season with the Bengals. He played on defense in every game last season, with five starts, and finished seventh in the NFL in punt return average (11.6), including an 81-yarder for a touchdown in a 34-27 win on Sept. 16 vs. Cleveland.

"It has been a pleasure to have Adam on our team," said Darrin Simmons, Bengals special teams coordinator. "He's an explosive player. He's got great innate talent. And he's competitive. He's tough. He'll fight you. He wants to succeed like crazy."

Jones tied for second on the Bengals in passes defensed last season with 11. He had 43 tackles with a sack and one forced fumble. He was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his Sept. 16 performance vs. Cleveland, when he had three punt returns for an average of 30 yards.

Jones is the fifth Bengals defender who had been eligible for free agency to re-sign for '13. Others are DE Robert Geathers, DE Wallace Gilberry, LB Rey Maualuga and DE Michael Johnson.

Cincinnati has also re-signed six players from offense or special teams who had been eligible for unrestricted free agency: LS Clark Harris, P Kevin Huber, K Mike Nugent, TE Richard Quinn, OT Dennis Roland and WR Brandon Tate.

The Bengals have signed one UFA from another club, QB Josh Johnson (last with Cleveland).
