CINCINNATI - Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton was named by the NFL Thursday as AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October.
Dalton has posted a 116.8 passer rating while leading the Bengals to a 4-0 record in four October games. Thursday night's game at Miami will count toward any possible November awards.
Dalton completed 89 of 131 passes (68 percent) for 1,246 yards, an average of 311.5 yards per game. He passed for 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions and and became the first Bengals QB to pass for 11 TDs in a three-game span.
Dalton threw a career-high five TD passes in Sunday’s 49-9 home win over the New York Jets, with four of those going to wide receiver Marvin Jones, named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
"I've got a lot of great teammates to work with and I'll take this award on behalf of all of them," Dalton said. "Everybody deserves a piece of it, including the coaches who are putting everything together for us."
Dalton was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 6 performance on Oct. 13 at Buffalo. At the halfway point of the season, he and Jones have accounted for three weekly or monthly AFC awards, and the team is on pace to match last year's season total of six, which tied a franchise record set in 1988 and 1989.
The last Bengals player to win an AFC Offensive Player of the Month award was wide receiver A.J. Green in September 2012. The last Bengals QB to earn the award was Carson Palmer in September 2005.
Bengals Activate Andrew Hawkins
The Bengals activated wide receiver Andrew Hawkins to the roster from the Reserve/Injured list. Hawkins spent the first eight games on Reserve/Injured due to a preseason ankle injury.
Hawkins played in 14 Bengals games last season and finished third on the team in receptions (51) and receiving yards (533), with four touchdowns.
Evans Signed To Practice Squad
The Bengals signed defensive end DeQuin Evans to the practice squad Thursday.
Evans, a first-year NFL player from Kentucky, spent the first eight weeks on an NFL suspension (performance-enhancing substances). He was cleared on Monday to rejoin the team on a roster exemption. He was waived Tuesday.
