Gapper was the fourth mascot added to the Cincinnati Reds lineup in 2002, initially introduced as a furry companion to Mr. Red.

Gapper was created by Raymond Entertainment Group, the founder of which was the man inside the Phillie Phanatic costume from 1973 to 1993.

A young fan submitted the winning name for the mascot, which comes from the gap in the seats of Great American Ball Park that provides a view into and out of the stadium. That fan received two season tickets for the winning entry.

The actual term "gapper" is jargon for a hit that falls into the gap between outfielders.

Mr. Satin appears on The Fifth Mascot, a show about all things Cincinnati Reds that airs LIVE every Thursday at 2 p.m.
