Reds, MLB looking for ‘Honorary Bat Girl' to help fight breast cancer

CINCINNATI – The Reds organization and Major League Baseball are teaming up to battle breast cancer and allow one lucky person to live out their on-field dreams.

The MLB announced Thursday details of its league-wide Honorary Bat Girl Contest, an initiative designed to raise greater awareness and support for the breast cancer cause.

Fans are encouraged to submit stories about how they, or someone they know, are “Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer” and why they would like to be an honorary bat girl.

One winner representing each MLB team will be chosen by a panel of judges.

The Reds winner will be recognized during pregame ceremonies on Mother’s Day, May 11 at Great American Ball Park. The game against the Colorado Rockies starts at 1:10 p.m.

In addition to the on-field recognition, the winner gets complimentary tickets to the game, a Louisville Slugger pink bat engraved with winner’s name, a commemorative jersey and pink wrist bands.

Fans can visit www.HonoraryBatGirl.com to share their story. The deadline for submissions is March 24.
