Tech billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates made the holidays very bright indeed for one lucky Reddit user this week.

“Rachel,” identified as Reddit user NY1227 got a very special gift from another user simply named “bill” during the site’s popular “redditgifts” event.

Reddit is a social news site where users can post links, photos or any number of items and the content is voted up or down by other users.

According to the site, Redditgifts is an international online gift exchange that started on the site in 2009. Site admins said last year more than 44,800 people participated.

Rachel said she received her gift from “bill” Wednesday night and did not immediately know it was from Gates himself.

She said Bill sent her a stuffed cow and made a donation in her name to the Heifer International charity.

“The charity gives families in need the right tools -- such as animals, seeds, clean water, safe stoves or a chance for girls to go to school,” Rachel said.

Gates also gave Rachel a book from National Geographic called “Journeys of a Lifetime.”

After flipping through the book, Rachel said she still didn’t know it was Gates who was behind the gift giving.

It wasn’t until she found a card and inscription from Gates that her jaw dropped “to the ever loving floor.”

The gift also came with a picture of Gates holding up her stuffed cow and the card.

Rachel said, “Never in my entire life did I imagine, ever, ever, ever that Bill would get me. I am SO SO thankful for the time, thought and energy he put into my gift, and especially thankful for him over-nighting it.”

She said she feels awkward because besides asking for “makeup, nail polish and glittery things,” when she signed up earlier, she also requested an Apple iPad.
