CINCINNATI - The president of the University of Cincinnati is taking a new role in forming public policies in the Buckeye State.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich announced Monday that he appointed UC President Santa Ono to the Third Frontier Advisory Board. The board helps decide which companies, research institutions and schools in Ohio receive funding for ideas and programs that will boost the state's economy.
Ono joins the board on April 1, 2013, and will serve a two-year term until March 14, 2015. Ono filled a vacant spot on the board and will work alongside eight other business representatives from around the state, five higher education and non-profit representatives and two general assembly seats.
The $2.3 billion initiative, which was created in 2002, works to create an "innovative ecosystem" that supports the transition of great ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace.
Ono will continue to fulfill his duties as UC president -- a position he has held since October 2012.
