COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald says he has begun accepting invitations to debate Republican Gov. John Kasich, whose campaign says it has yet to begin debate negotiations.
FitzGerald, the Cuyahoga County executive, says in a news release he's accepted six invitations to debates or forums in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Zanesville and Sandusky.
Spokeswoman Connie Wehrkamp says the Kasich campaign is receiving invitations but has not yet negotiated a schedule.
FitzGerald challenged Kasich to include Youngstown, Dayton, Lima, Toledo and Marietta in the debate line-up, following the spirit of his traveling State of the State speech.
Wehrkamp says Kasich's campaign doesn't intend to negotiate the debate schedule in the press.
Debate invitations are coming from universities, media outlets and institutions such as the City Club of Cleveland.
