Clark County deputies search for missing 14-year-old girl

Teen believed to be abducted by 44-year-old man

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Ohio authorities are searching for a 14-year-old Clark County girl and the 44-year-old man believed to have abducted her.

This is the second incident involving the two, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s office.

Deputies said Michaela Bruce was reported missing on Tuesday.

WHIO-TV said deputies got a tip that Bruce and 44-year-old Mark Edwards were at the Knight’s Inn Hotel on West Main Street.

Deputies said Edwards is charged with having a sexual relationship with her is believed to have abducted her.

Investigators said items belonging to Edwards and Bruce were found in a room at the hotel but they were not there.

Deputies said they later spotted a car that Edwards had rented and gave chase, but the car did not stop.

The car was later on the southwest side of Springfield, and despite a search of the area, Edwards and Bruce were not located.

This is not the first incident involving the pair.

Edwards was arrested in Sept., 2013 after he was found with Bruce after she went missing from her school bus stop, according to WHIO-TV. Edwards and the teen were located in a green Ford Expedition in the 3300 block of Ohio 41.

Deputies said they found Bruce hidingin the rear of the vehicle under blankets. Inside the SUV, deputies found a Taser, knives, condoms, a spear and more.

At the time, an Amber Alert was issued for Bruce. This time deputies did not issue an Amber Alert.

A felony warrant for Edward's arrest has been issued by the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Edwards was scheduled to go to trial March 4 on six counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and interference with custody for allegedly having a sexual relationship with the victim previously. He posted bond in December.
