Childhood home of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, site of his first murder for sale in Bath for $295K

BATH TWP., Ohio - The childhood home in Bath Township where notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer murdered his first victim is once again up for sale.

Rich Lubinski, real estate agent for Stouffer Realty, said the 2,000-square-foot house at 4480 W. Bath Road has been on the market for 12 days and is listed at $295,000. The price has been reduced from $329,000.

"About 50 percent of the people I talk to about the home are immediately disinterested because of the history, but half the people don't care. The house didn't kill anybody. There's nothing going on here. It's not haunted. It's just a house," Lubinski said.

In the summer of 1991, police converged on the home, and for one week, dug for answers in a 13-year-old mystery.

They found the scattered remains of Steven Hicks, a hitchhiker who was picked up by Dahmer in 1978 and killed inside his home.

Captain Greg Lang said Hicks was hit over the head with a barbell. His body was dismembered in a crawl space and his remains were scattered all over the property.

"His reason was the he didn't want the guy to leave. The guy wanted to move on. He [Dahmer] didn't want him to move on and ended up killing him.

Dahmer told police where to find the body after he was linked to killing and dismembering 16 other men or boys in the Milwaukee area.

Some of the his murders involved necrophilia and cannibalism.

Lubinski refers to the Bath Township house as "mid-century modern" with many updates.

"New kitchen, high-end Italian appliances. The back is all glass with fabulous views."

The house has changed owners at least five times since 1982.

Lubinski said it's hard to predict if the home's dark past will make it a difficult sell this time.

"Having the history that it does, it could certainly help us. It could certainly hurt us as well."

He said he doesn't plan to hold an open house. Appointments will be limited to well-qualified buyers.
