9-year-old 'zapped' by lightning in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio -- A 9-year-old boy "zapped by lightning" inside a home was taken by medics to Dayton Children's Hospital Monday, according to police dispatchers.

The incident happened at about 6 p.m. in the 200 block of Air St. between Troy and Valley Streets in East Dayton, WHIO reports .

"My son just got zapped by lightning," a woman said to dispatchers in a 911 call. "He's got marks on his chest from where it hit him."

The mother said the child was alert and breathing normally, but was shaking. Crying can be heard in the background of the call.

A neighbor did not see anyone get hit, but heard a loud lightning strike in the area. Another neighbor said she saw a young boy in an ambulance taken from the scene.
