Sheriff: Body of missing Alzheimer's patient found in pond in Aurora, Ind.

AURORA, Ind. - Emergency workers searching for a missing woman with Alzheimer’s found her body in a pond in southeast Indiana Wednesday morning.

Officials identified her as Peggy Dean, 57. Dean had a history of wandering off, Dearborn County Sheriff's deputies said.

An autopsy will be performed, but investigators believe the woman's death was an accident.

Just before dawn, callers told dispatchers they saw a woman with a blanket around her walking down the road and in the area.

A search party of deputies and fire personnel responded to the 5000 block of Dutch Hollow Road at about 6:15 a.m. to look for her.

About 9 a.m. a firefighter spotted a body in a private pond just off the roadway, according to the sheriff's office.
