VERSAILLES, Ind. -- Both east and westbound lanes of Interstate 74 at the 153 mile marker reopened at about 7 p.m. Friday after an accident involving a semi tractor trailer.

Indiana State Police first reported the accident and affected traffic area at about 6:15 p.m. The roadway was fully closed intermittently for about an hour.

Motorists traveling along the stretch of I-74 westbound in Ripley County were re-routed off I-74 at Exit 156 (State Route 101 Sunman-Milan exit) south on S.R. 101 to S.R. 46 west into Batesville.

Westbound traffic was able to reenter I-74 westbound from the Batesville Exit (exit 149) to continue west.

Eastbound I-74 was limited to one lane at this time and periodic closures were expected as the semi was removed from the scene. This detour and traffic tie up were expected to last for several hours.

As of 7:10 p.m., officials with the Indiana State Police were advising motorists to use caution in the area because traffic was still backed up and moving slowly.
