Kenneth David Owens: Former high school band director gets second prison sentence on sex charges

BOONE COUNTY, Ky. - A former high school band director who pleaded guilty to sex charges in three Northern Kentucky countries received his second prison sentence Wednesday, with one to go.

Kenneth David Owens, 34, who admitted having sex with three teenage girls, was given a five-year sentence in Boone County.

Owens was also ordered to pay $1,000 in fines, and he will have to register as a sex offender for 20 years.

Owens had already received a 10-year sentence in Grant County and faces sentencing in Kenton County later this month.

Owens' sentences will run concurrently.

Owens was originally charged in Grant County in September 2013 with having sex with a 16-year-old.

Those charges led to investigations in other counties where Owens worked.

Owens was arraigned on additional charges of rape, sodomy and sexual abuse of a 14-year-old in Kenton County in January.

Owens' wife, JoAnne Owens, a former Grant County Middle School band director, was charged with two counts of tampering with a witness in Grant County.

Owens resigned from Grant County High School in September. His wife resigned from the middle school later that month after she was charged.
