MASON, Ohio - Jill Widmer, the mother of Ryan Widmer who gained national attention defending her son during his three trials, was found dead at her residence Monday.
According to the Warren County Coroner's office, Widmer's body was discovered by one of her sons at her Mason home just before noon.
The coroner's office said there were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play.
Widmer's son, Ryan, is serving 15 years to life for drowning his wife Sarah in their home's bathtub in 2008.
Widmer vigorously proclaimed her son’s innocence through his three separate trials. In an interview with WLW's Bill Cunningham in 2009, Widmer said her son was innocent and the evidence proved it.
"I would have thought differently. There was enough to come out that showed that this was just a tragic, tragic accident that could happen to anyone. I'm here to tell you if you have a son or daughter you could be in my family's shoes," she told Cunningham.
The first trial ended in a guilty verdict that was later thrown out because of juror misconduct. The second trial ended in a hung jury and in the third he was convicted.
Officials did not release any other details on Widmer's death at this time.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
