Man found guilty for 2013 killing of cousin in Mount Orab

GEORGETOWN, Ohio -- A man will spend 18 years to life in prison for the shooting death of his cousin in Mount Orab last year.

Brown County jurors found Joseph N. Trzeciak, 25, guilty of murder Thursday, almost a year after he shot and killed 27-year-old James A. Mootispaw.

The shooting happened in the late hours of June 7, 2013.

Police arrested Trzeciak in Michigan just a few days after he was named a suspect in the case.

Authorities said he fled the scene of the shooting in a 2001 black Mazda pick-up truck.

Following a four-day trial, the jury deliberated for more than three hours before reaching its verdict.

Attorneys said they were pleased with the jury’s decision.

“There will always be consequences for taking another individual’s life in Brown County,” said First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Zachary A. Corbin.
