SPARKS, Nev. -- The 12-year-old lone gunman police say is responsible for the death of a Nevada teacher and himself found the gun at his home.

As the AP reported Tuesday, Nevada police did not release his name out of respect for his family.

Police said the shooter used a semi-automatic gun on Monday at Sparks Middle School. In the shooter's rampage, an 8th-grade math teacher was shot and killed before the gunman turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.

According to the AP, police of the Washoe County School District were unsure where the weapon was purchased. Investigators are working to learn how the gunman got his hands on the 9mm semi-automatic Ruger handgun.

Two 12-year-old boys were hurt as the gunman fired shots on the Sparks campus. One was shot in the shoulder, the other was hit tin the abdomen, the AP reported. The boys were listed in stable condition shortly after Monday's shooting, and were recovering on Tuesday.

Authorities did not give details on the gunman's motive, and investigators are working to determine how the shooter got his hands on the gun. The AP said students were returning to school following a week's vacation when the shots rang out, just 15 minutes before the first class bell would ring.

Sparks Middle School is located in a working-class suburb of Reno. About 700 students are enrolled in 7th and 8th grades.
