LEBANON, Ohio - On a cloudless day in Lebanon, hundreds gathered to witness the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Firefighters, police and other first responders heard a somber message from numerous speakers with a common thread, "We will not forget."

Springboro Police Chief, Jeffrey Kruithoff said, "This monument reflects the strength of our resolve as a community to never forget Sept. 11, 2001. Wendy Faulkner and Robert Peraza found themselves on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001 being thrust into a permanent and noteworthy place in our country and our counties history."

Lynn Faulkner, husband to victim Wendy Faulkner, attended the dedication of the granite and marble memorial and had mixed feelings. He was glad to see the community remembering and focusing on the events of Sept. 11 but it also meant his own personal loss was brought up again.

"All of a sudden it hits you, you are in a happy place again and then bang, here it comes and grabs you again. It's not ancient history, we are still involved in what started on Sept. 11", said Faulkner.

Songs, tributes and bagpipes brought the crowd to tears as patriotism was evident with a giant flag attached to a ladder fire truck being raised to display the new memorial.
