MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Bond was set at $1 million Tuesday for two men accused of attacking and killing a teen during a drug deal over the weekend.
Police said 36-year-old Michael Geldrich and 39-year-old Michael Watson robbed, beat and sexually assaulted 16-year-old Dione Payne of Dayton, Ohio, before dropping him off at Atrium Medical Center Sunday evening.
Payne was later transferred to Miami Valley Regional Hospital in Dayton where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities were at the scene of the attack at 11 Vernon Street in Franklin Tuesday trying to find the weapon used in the beating.
Investigators said Payne was at the Franklin home to sell drugs to the men when the attack happened.
The suspects later dropped the teen off in a black pickup, authorities said. Less than 24 hours later, the truck was found and both men were arrested.
They are charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated murder.
"Why would you want to beat somebody to death, said Bernice Peters, whose family lives next door to the crime scene. "I mean, I don't know what the situation was and don't want to know but still -- to beat someone to death in your home?"
Franklin Police Chief Russ Whitman said he doesn't know what object was used to beat Payne to death. An autopsy will be performed at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
"Hopefully during the autopsy, we will be able to match the injuries or the blunt force trauma to the impact weapon," Whitman said.
Geldrich and Watson, both from Franklin, were arraigned Tuesday in Franklin Municipal Court. They will make another court appearance on Dec. 10.
They could face the death penalty if convicted.
