Fire rescue units recover body of suspected burglar from pond after he fled crime scene

HAMILTON TWP., Ohio - Hamilton Township fire units in Warren County have identified the body of a suspected thief that they recovered from a pond Saturday morning.

The deceased male has been identified as Jeffrey Felix, 26, of South Lebanon.

According to authorities, at 4:56 a.m. Hamilton Township police received a call of a suspected burglary in progress. Witnesses said they saw a suspicious man driving a dark-colored pickup truck in the 9000 block of Swigert Road.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect, according to Hamilton Township and Morrow police, fled the scene by driving the truck into a nearby field. When the truck got, the man got out of the vehicle and took off running.

Police state a short time later a yell could be heard. Officers then located and witnessed the man struggling to stay above water in the middle of a pond. He disappeared underwater before officers could reach him.

At 10:45 a.m. the Felix's body was recovered from the pond, located in the 9400 block of Zoar Road.

Officers believe they found stolen property in the man’s vehicle.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation.
