FLORENCE Ky. -- Edward Sayee Dahn choked the clerk of a Shell gas station in Florence early Friday morning, sending the worker to the emergency room for surgery, according to police.
Dahn, 20, is being charged with first-degree robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.
Capt. Linny Cloyd of the Florence Police Department said Dahn entered the store just after midnight, and approached the clerk inside. Kanubai Patel was attacked as Dahn tried to stab and slash him with a knife.
Patel was able to escape the knife, but was put in a choke hold by the robber. He was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for emergency surgery shortly after the incident.
Cloyd said Friday morning that 67-year-old Patel had been unable to move his arms and legs, and was still hospitalized.
Before running from the gas station, located in the 7100 block of Turfway Road, the suspect stole Patel's wallet. After a short time, he came back to the store and demanded Patel's car keys.
Cloyd said Dahn stole Patel's sedan, a white 2009 Toyota Camry.
