Kathleen Reinzan: Edgewood school bus crash kills mother of four, injures bus driver

Police say 4 students uninjured in crash

EDGEWOOD, Ky. -- A 25-year-old mother of four is dead after a crash involving a school bus in Edgewood on Thursday morning.

Kenton County officers said the crash happened just before 7 a.m. near the intersection of Madison and Dudley pikes. All lanes of Madison Pike reopened by about 1 p.m. after police cleared the scene.

The crash happened when a driver pulled her vehicle left onto Madison Pike from the driveway of a Waffle House where she worked at and into the path of the bus, according to police.

Investigators said three vehicles were involved in the crash. When the bus struck the woman’s car, the impact caused both vehicles to cross into the northbound lanes of Madison Pike where the woman’s car hit a third vehicle.

The bus was carrying four students to Summit View Elementary at the time.

All of the students were buckled in and did not suffer any injuries. One student said the crash was “pretty scary.”

A coroner was called to the scene by about 8:30 a.m. Officials said the woman driving the car died upon impact.

Family members identified her as Kathleen Reinzan. Her brother said Reinzan was leaving her second day of work at the Waffle House.

"She's a great mom, she loved her kids,” Reinzan’s brother, Michael Eaton, said.‪ "Everyone's shocked, they can't believe it. She's 25 years old; she's still young. She still had a long life. She could've done anything."

Family members said Reinzan is survived by a 9-year-old, 3-year-old, 2-year-old and a 6-month-old.

The bus driver who was injured in the crash is said to be OK.

A bus monitor who was onboard and the driver of the third vehicle were both reported to be uninjured.

School officials said Superintendent Terri Cox-Cruey met with each child at the elementary.

Kenton County police said no criminal activity is suspected and they do not anticipate filing any charges.

The crash is still under investigation.
