Fired Covington finance director's Wednesday civil suit hearing canceled

COVINGTON, Ky. -- Covington's former finance director was expected back in a Kentucky court on Wednesday, but the hearing was canceled.

Robert Due is accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the city.

Unlike the criminal case against him, (wherein the prosecution would have to prove Due is guilty of a crime,) the question in Due's civil suit is whether Due is responsible for financial losses.

If the city fails to prove its case, Due would pay nothing back to the city.

Currently, he is being held in custody while accused of embezzling $600,000 in city funds. He faces 20 years in prison.

Commissioners unanimously fired Due in August.

After a pair of suicide attempts while on house arrest, a judge revoked Due’s bond and he was taken into custody.

Meanwhile the city is advertising for two positions: finance director and a new internal auditor.
