CINCINNATI -- For those who crawl through masses of interstate traffic each day, the latest census data come as no surprise: The drive to work for most Tri-State commuters has gotten longer.

Data released Thursday in the 2012 American Community Survey shows the average trip to and from work is about 26 minutes for commuters in Hamilton County and in nine adjoining counties of Indiana and Kentucky.

That’s a couple minutes higher than commute times reported five years earlier.

For road-weary workers in two Indiana counties – Dearborn and Franklin – the commute exceeds a half-hour. Ripley County, Indiana and Clermont County, Ohio also are above the Tri-State average.

The rise in travel times coincides with an increase in commuters, particularly in Kentucky and Ohio suburbs.

The data visualization below shows how commuters and travel times in the area have changed since 2007.  Roll over areas of the map to get detailed information.
