CINCINNATI -- The body of a 26-year-old man was found Saturday afternoon in a ditch along the border between Cincinnati and Delhi Township.
Police said a passerby saw the body just after 5 p.m. off Rapid Run Road near Riverview Trail, about a quarter mile from Hillside Avenue.
The deceased has been identified as Chris Shaw of Delhi Township.
Investigators did not release the cause of the death and are waiting on the coroner's report before releasing additional details. However, they have confirmed they're investigating the matter as both a hit-and-run and a criminal scene.
"It appears the victim may have been walking eastbound along the roadway," wrote Delhi Township Police Chief Jim Howarth. "We have received information that he may have left an establishment in the Sayler Park area at approximately 3 a.m. Friday morning."
Shaw's family members told WCPO that Shaw frequently walked along Rapid Run Road.
"Honestly, it isn't a safe street to walk on," Howarth said.
Resident Missy Surman said a detour around the closed Cleves-Warsaw Bridge has made it even more dangerous.
"I would say at least twice busier," she said. “It's very close to my house, close to my kids. It's scary."
The road was closed at Hillside Avenue to Riverview Trail most of Saturday night due to the preliminary investigation.
The area where the body was found sits between the Cincinnati neighborhood of Sayler Park and Delhi Township, so officers from both departments reported to the scene. Delhi Township is handling the investigation.
