Plane that took off from CVG declares level 2 emergency while in flight due to smoke indicator

HEBRON, Ky. -- A flight departing from the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport en route to Dallas Fort-Worth Airport on Monday declared a level two emergency while in flight.

CVG Spokeswoman, Melissa Wideman, said the pilots of American Eagle flight 3162 declared a level two emergency due to a smoke indicator going off.

The flight with 53 people on board including the crew was diverted back to CVG where passengers were evacuated back to the terminal.

Wideman said the plane landed without incident and that no one on board were injured.

Maintenance is inspecting the plane to see if it is "flightworthy" and airport officials say they are waiting to see if the plane will be able to fly as scheduled. If not, passengers will be booked onto another flight.
