Taste of Cincinnati road closures, traffic concerns

Tens of thousands of people from across the Midwest will venture into downtown for the annual Taste of Cincinnati.

But if they're going to drive through any part of the city's urban core during Memorial Day weekend they'll need to plan ahead – and not just for what foods and beverages they want to try.

Although plenty of parking is available, there are several traffic restrictions throughout the Central Business District, some of which go into effect Friday night. The Taste runs from Saturday afternoon through Monday night.

The following closures begin at 6 p.m. Friday and will remain closed until 5 a.m. Tuesday, just in time for the morning commute.

ROAD CLOSURES

  • Fifth Street: Closed between Vine and Sentinel streets
  • Walnut Street: Closed between Fourth and Sixth streets*
  • Main Street: Closed between Fourth and Sixth streets*
  • Sycamore Street: Closed between Fourth and Sixth streets*
  • Broadway: Closed between Fourth and Sixth streets*

*Although these streets will be closed, access will be maintained to parking garages.

Because of the challenges for motorists, a stretch of Broadway, between Sixth and Seventh streets, will be temporarily converted from one-way to two-way.

Construction work related to the Cincinnati Streetcar project will be suspended in the CBD for the annual Memorial Day weekend celebration. However, many of the roadblocks and standing construction projects could still impede traffic in some areas.

In addition to traffic congestion in the area, all parking on the streets listed above will be prohibited. Parking will also be prohibited on Sixth Street from Elm Street to Broadway.

Access to many downtown garages will be maintained.

Metro bus service that normally uses this area will be detoured around the closure. Riders should follow a set of instructions posted at their stop.
