This week on Pet Pals, Bob Howard from the Stray Animal Adoption Foundation joined us with two adorable hound mix puppies that need homes…Cadbury and Nestle! They are 9-week-old females that are around 6 pounds each. Both puppies will be up for adoption in Dayton, Kentucky at 11am.
In fact, if you’re looking for something fun to do today, while helping out a cause, head on over to the "It's a Pet aFair.” This is the Stray Animal Adoption Foundation’s largest fundraiser. It’s Saturday, April 26th from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be more than 12 different animal rescue groups as well as pet related vendors, a pet parade, a Mascot Mingle, featuring more than 15 different local mascots, and a car show.
Howard also discussed why it is necessary for animal rescue groups to have fundraisers and seek donations.
1. All pet rescue groups strive to offer affordable adoption fees. At the Stray Animal Adoption Foundation, the adoption fee for Cadbury or Nestle is only $140. The pets have been spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, current on vaccinations, dewormed, had flea and tick medication applied and fed/maintained while in a foster home. If you were doing a quick calculation in your mind, you can easily determine that you cannot get those services done for anywhere near $140.
2. Rescue Groups frequently save special needs pets. This might be injuries (broken bones, etc), medical ailments (blind, deaf, poisoned), neglect cases or hoarding situations. The relatively low adoption fee does not begin to cover the medical costs involved.
