Jimmy Carter stops at Skyline Chili during visit to Cincinnati

CINCINNATI -- The staff of Skyline Chili downtown had a special guest for dinner Tuesday night - former president Jimmy Carter.

After an afternoon in Rookwood, the country's 39th president stopped at the Cincinnati spot for a late bite to eat.

"I waited on Jimmy Carter and it was very cool," General Manager Susan Williams said. "It was an honor to wait on him."

She said he had a small cheese coney and a beer.

Carter's dinner plans for the corner of 4th and Sycamore was no surprise. The downtown Skyline staff found out about a week ago, but was overwhelmed with excitement.

"We got a phone call a couple weeks ago from the secret service saying he'd be here on April 1," server Vicki Maxwell said. "We thought it was an April Fools' joke!"

She said Carter spent no time browsing the menu, and that he placed his order "right away."
