CINCINNATI -- The Flying Pig is going to the dogs -- literally.
Marathon organizers and officials at Procter & Gamble announced a new event for the annual event Wednesday.
The IAMS Flying Fur run will be a two-mile dog/owner run held on Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m. near the Purple People Bridge in Cincinnati.
“We are thrilled to be able to add a dog run to our growing schedule of Flying Pig events,” Iris Simpson Bush, Flying Pig Marathon executive director, said in a release. “We are looking forward to partnering with IAMS to promote wellness and exercise for pets as well as people as part of our Flying Pig celebration.”
The event will also help out local dog shelters. Bush said IAMS will donate one large bag of pet food to the SPCA Cincinnati for each dog registered in the event. “IAMS is very excited about creating a way for dogs and their owners to compete in Cincinnati’s Flying Pig Marathon,” Jason Taylor, IAMS North America Communications Manager, said in a release. “Connecting with your pet by spending time training/running is a great way to keep yourself in good shape and keep him/her healthy and happy.” Interested dog owners can register for the race www.flyingpigmarathon.com .
The entry for one person and one dog is $30. Each addition person or dog on the same entry is $15.
Organizers said that dogs running/walking in the race will receive an IAMS Flying Fur bandana.
The 16th Annual Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon weekend will be held May 2-4.
