LEBANON, Ohio – An 84-year-old driver suffered fatal injuries Thursday afternoon when he was hit while trying to turn into a driveway in Turtlecreek Township.

Harold McCain, 84, of Lebanon, was attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway on southbound State Route 123 at about 3:30 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound Ford F-150 pickup truck, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The accident occurred about a half-mile outside of Lebanon.

Paramedics initially transported McCain to Atrium Medical Center but medical personnel decided to move him to Miami Valley Hospital, where he later died.

Investigators said McCain was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

The driver of the pickup truck, 32-year-old Edward L. Dotson III, of Blanchester, suffered minor injuries. Dotson’s passenger, James R. Stump, 34, of Oregonia, also suffered minor injuries.

Neither man was transported for medical treatment.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
