CINCINNATI -- The Cintas Center at Xavier University is getting an upgrade.
The university revealed a new design for the playing floor at the facility on Thursday.
The Cintas Center is home to Xavier’s men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams. Inspiration for the design was pulled together from fan submissions.
“We would like to thank our fans for their contributions to this process. We invited fans to be part of the process and were thrilled with the response. The results were several great and imaginative ideas,” Brian Hicks, Xavier Associate Athletic Director for External Relations, said via a release.
The new design features an primary “X” at center court and the “Xavier” trademark at the baselines.
The playing floor includes two-shades of wood stain, a lighter color inside the end and side lines and the outside perimeter of the floor a darker shade. All markings including the BIG EAST and Cintas Corporation logos will be in Xavier’s traditional navy color.
The big new feature that fans will notice is an image of the Cincinnati skyline. The university said it was a nod to Xavier’s history and heritage as a part of the community.
“We are part of the BIG EAST Conference with a collection of 10 urban institutions,” Hicks said. “We feel the Cincinnati skyline dramatically highlights both the history and future of Xavier as a major part of this major metropolitan area we call home.”
The silhouette will be located on the side of the floor opposite of the team benches and will provide the city with exposure during each of this season’s 16 home men’s basketball games.
Xavier picked Cincinnati-based Cincinnati Floor Company will refinish the floor and they plan to have it complete in time for the beginning of the fall volleyball season.
