All clear given after University of Cincinnati gas leak, evacuation

CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati gave an all-clear advisory Friday after Rieveschl Hall was evacuated due to a natural gas leak.

The hall was cleared for re-occupancy shortly before 12:30 p.m.

University officials said the leak happened at about 11:15 a.m. at 318 College Dr.

The university said Rieveschl Hall is an eight-story science building that holds classrooms, faculty offices and labs on the northwest end of campus.

The area was evacuated after people reported a gas smell in the area.

Officials said the leak was traced to the street outside of the building. Everyone was asked to stay away from the area until the all-clear is given.

Police, fire and Duke Energy crews were called to the scene to handle repairs.

No other details have been released.
